I was actually 27 when I finally booked that first big solo trip — three and a half months in Southeast Asia, then a year back at home to work and then 15 months in Australia and New Zealand. I thought I’d be living the dream. And in some ways, I was.

​

But here’s what shifted everything for me…

​

When I got to New Zealand, I’d actually saved enough money to experience the place properly. Not just scrimp and stay in the cheapest hostels — but really see the country.

​

I did the kind of tour I would’ve never been able to afford before… and honestly, it was one of the best experiences of my life.

​

Had I not had the money, I genuinely don’t think I’d have seen the islands the way I did. That trip opened my eyes — not just to the world, but to what freedom really means when you’re not always worrying about what you can afford, where you can eat and how you can get there.

​

That’s when I realised:

I was kind of done with travel on a shoestring, I wanted to live with options.

​

I wanted a life that let me say yes to things. One that could evolve with me — into new seasons, new goals, have a calmer nervous system and one day… family.

​

Travel in my future looks a little different now!

​

It’s city breaks, enjoying ALL the food! Longer getaways with my partner. It’s beautiful locations, boutique hotels, and still being able to go off the beaten path — just without the stress of scraping pennies together or counting down the days until I have to go back to a job.

And one day? I’ll be showing my future children the world, too.
